It has been a week since my last post about Alien: Earth, and I will say we are still behind by an episode (so we need to watch episode 4 from Tuesday). I was up in the air about putting Episodes 2 and 3 together, but ultimately I decided to split them.
Right off the bat, I wasn’t crazy about Wendy’s brother, Joe, or the group he is in. Joe seems a little bit more soft spoken compared to the loud and arrogant group, and in the middle of getting bullied (or at least it seemed like it), they witness the USS Maginot fly over and crash into a far off building. The group rolls out to assess and rescue any survivors, eventually heading into the ship itself. They found the bodies of the crew, all of which showing signs of being attacked by something. Eventually they do show different live specimens, which I thought was pretty cool, but I was waiting for the main event from the last episode!
There were some characters that frustrated me more than anything due to being annoying, but I won’t let that take away from the show. I wasn’t crazy about Joe, or his group, as well as Kavalier (who Matt kept comparing to Zuckerberg, which is also another reason why I don’t like his character). Morrow is an okay character, although I can’t tell if I like him as a well played bad villain (if he even is a villain) or if I also find his character annoying. I do still love Wendy, and the majority of her group, as well as Kirsh.
Now I totally understand it is apart of the plot, but Wendy convinces Kavalier to send herself and the other lost children to the crash site to investigate and recover, but I just don’t understand why. This group, with the exception of Kirsh, are all still children. I feel like it was a silly idea, and there were multiple instances where I thought it over and over again.
I will say, I did love the different specimens that they showed. I loved the plant alien, which reminded me of the barnacles from Half-Life, as well as the crazy eye creature that turned the cat into a zombie. I actually thought the centipede creature that turns the crew as a bit mediocre, but I feel like that was the only one. The Xenomorph, however, I am thrilled about! I think they did a great job, especially for a television series!
Watching the Xenomorph on screen completely destroy a group of people, and give it plenty of screen time was amazing! It walked through several groups of people, living up to its hype! I did think it was silly that Morrow ended up capturing it, as well as was allowed to live once it escaped capture, but it is what it is.
I was thrilled that Wendy got to find her brother immediately, and then immediately lost him due to a Xenomorph pounce out a window. The ending of the episode by far got Matt’s attention due to being a Tool fan, and I feel like it was a completely hardcore way of closing out the episode but with Wendy jumping after her brother.
I have little gripes with the show, but honestly I am enjoying it far more than I expected. I know not everything will be perfect, but I am super happy I finally get to enjoy a TV show based off of a major series.
Fingers crossed I get Episode 3’s review out before Tuesday, because I don’t want to be too far behind on new episodes!
