The Hobbit Book Review

I am not sure how I have made it this long, but up until the past few years I knew nothing about The Lord of The Rings or the lore around it. Matt and I had watched the movies, and we stayed up to date with The Rings of Power TV show (which I loved both movies and TV show). I decided at the beginning of January I wanted to start reading more, and what better way to start the new year with reading The Hobbit for the first time?

Funny enough, I started reading The Hobbit on January 3rd, which is J.R.R. Tolkien’s birthday. I thought that was a cool and convenient thing! Matt was trying to tell me that The Hobbit was a hard read because the author trails off with descriptions and thoughts, which was funny because that is exactly how I talk and think (way into the left field sometimes). It also helped already seeing the movie what to picture as I read, so that was a plus too!

I feel like this is probably going to be a shorter review because of how close the movie had followed the book. I thought it did a really good job, and didn’t think they missed anything from just The Hobbit (I haven’t read any of the other stuff from Tolkien yet, though). I adored probably all of the characters within this book, besides the different Hobbit families who weren’t convinced that Bilbo was back and alive in the end. I loved Gandalf and how he wouldn’t let on how much of something that he actual knew. The dwarves that they traveled with, and all of their personalities! I even loved Smaug, although I really wish there was more of him!

I also really love how this is the introduction of the lands of Middle Earth, from Bag End all the way to Lake Town and back! There is just so much to explore with all of the locations, and makes me want to read up on it more. I think my favorite locations would be Rivendell and Mirkwood, only because of all of the elves, but realistically all of the settings are fantastic!

I just recently found out, however, that there were people who didn’t like The Hobbit movies compared to the books, due to the director adding too much extra stuff from The Simarillion, or adjusting certain things. It kind of surprises me to be honest because I really thought it was a great book!

I knew this was going to be a super short post, but I just wanted to kind of write and ramble a bit on how much I’ve been enjoying LOTR lore and books and stuff.
