Our final Season 1 of Alien: Earth review! For as decent as I thought this show was, I am still upset that shows are now shorter with less episodes and take years to come out with a follow up (I should say, if the mouse deems it good enough for another one). This season flew by, even with the episodes being released weekly, and the uncertainty that if there will be a season 2 is a little upsetting because I truly think you can’t determine how well a show is off of one season alone.
Without further ado, let’s begin!
The show begins with the Lost Boys who was captured in the last episode in one big cell, similar looking to a bird cage. It’s a dramatic visual, but Wendy deems that Boy Kavalier and his group should actually be afraid of them, and uses her powers to shutdown the entire island, allowing Joe and Morrow out of their separate cell in a totally different location.
A little horror portion of the show is when Kavalier goes to visit the Lost Boys after the power is shut down, and tries to give them a sob story about himself, they end up opening the door to their cell, showing that they are now in power. He takes off running, starting the chase. I have had a constant disdain for Kavalier, so I would have liked to see his downfall in this episode, which we did for the most part.
Joe goes to look for his sister now, which I personally find interesting because she’s mad at him due to the ending of Episode 7 where he attacks and stuns Nibs. Instead he is met with Atom Eins, who eventually brings him to the room with the Ocellus sheep to try and have Joe as its new host. This scene was actually pretty good, where Ocellus sheds the sheep body to try and attach itself to Joe, all the while Joe is fighting with Eins. Wendy comes in and saves the day, revealing that Eins is actually a Synth, shutting him down.
Morrow during this time finds Kirsch in the lab, where he is doing research. They also have a fight, where at one point I wasn’t sure who was going to win due to them just going at each other. At the end Kirsch wins, but then eventually both are captured by The Lost Boys with cables.
At the end of the episode, everyone from the island is captured in the same bird cage cell that the Lost Boys were imprisoned in at the start, which with the children being outside of the cage it was also a dramatic visual again. The ending is left open, which makes me hope there is a second season to tie up some of the plot, but I am hoping Disney doesn’t pull their one and done that they do often.
Some things I would like to explore more are the Xenomorphs, obviously, but also who or what is Ocellus? Are they actually higher on the food chain compared to the Xenomorph? Why was Yutani carrying these alien species in the first place? What happens to the synth children? I really hope we don’t have to wait long for the answer to some of these questions.
Episode 8 was one of the weaker endings in my opinion, but it wasn’t terrible. They left it open so they can tie in another season, and I have really enjoyed the world building and characters’ stories that they have given us. Hopefully we will hear something about Season 2 soon!
